Some Audio Calibration work...

The goal is a nice flatline right to left with a small roll off at the top end (the high frequency to the LHS of the picture) for a sweet clean, warm sound.

We (people, humans) are most sensitive at lower ranges or bass. The flatter the bass in particular, the more powerful, punchy and 'clean' the entire presentation of the sound will feel.

Here is the catch - bass is the most difficult to control in a SMALL room (when we say small we mean less than 28m). This means every home cinema room

is going to have bass 'modes' or waves occuring around the room in peaks, dips and lulls. The number one goal for home audio is (or should be) bass management.

This happens between moving bass speakers and the listening position - the easy way is to run a test through the room and measure.

Pre calibration test - See the MASSIVE bass peak far left - almost off the chart!

Here the same system - all we did was move the speakers - no EQ was used to get this in-room response looking very good. Needless to say the sound and owner was very happy. With a bit more work the 'dip' found 1/4 the way along the graph could be tweaked up. This result was achieved after only two hour's work. (We will continue to work on this project once some new system upgrades are installed.)

Now this is really nasty, but typical of those cute little speakers you get because they look good and seem to make good noise. This is a real challenge - especially if all the speakers are stuck on walls/ceilings. With the kindness of the customer we could move the subwoofer whereever we needed for music/movie mode - with a fair bit of EQ and sub-placement we actually turned this around. See next image.

The room looked great and the sound really was amazing. This may not look like an audiophile standard result, however for a living area system, this was particularly impressive.
